CCRI has been providing affordable housing to students in Toronto since 1936. Today CCRI accommodates close to 320 student members in its 31 detached and semi-detached Victorian houses. Close to the downtown campus of UofT and the subway system, CCRI is an excellent housing option for students from many of Toronto's post-secondary institutions during the school year and a convenient location for summer visitors to the city who will be staying for a minimum of two months.
Each house is set up to accommodate, on average, ten to fifteen members in single, furnished rooms with and without meal plans. Shared kitchens, common areas, and bathrooms contribute to the co-operative housing atmosphere.
CCRI members get involved in the community and help keep the costs of rent and meal plans below market rates through the work schedule system. Members are expected to contribute six to ten hours per month, depending on the type of house in which the member lives. Areas of opportunity for participation include: meal preparation and serving, supplies purchasing, small maintenance tasks, volunteer work, cleaning, and planning environmental projects and social events.
