OSCA Mission Statement
The purpose of the Ontario Student Co-operative Association is to provide an opportunity for community, education, development and support through and for student focused co-operatives.
OSCA History
The Ontario Student Co-operative Association came into being by the five Ontario student housing Co-ops deciding to work together. Its goals include networking amongst member Co-ops, lobbying, education and development.
OSCA takes its strength from its member organizations, which in turn make up the driving force of the Co-operative Principles. Here is what each member organization has to say about the Co-op spirit, which OSCA is committed to uphold.
In co-operative housing, the residents are the owners, which means there is a staff but no landlord. The residents make decisions about the house that best suit their needs as opposed to the interests of the landlord.
Science ’44 Co-op
Co-operatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. In the tradition of their founders, co-operative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness social responsibility and caring for others.
Waterloo Co-Operative Residence Inc.
As a student-led organization, we consider it our mandate to provide our members with more than just affordable housing, we want to provide our members with the experience of living and working in a co-operative community.
Campus Co-op Residences
Student Co-ops are more affordable because our mandate is to serve students, not make big profits. Another reason for its affordability is that housing members are required to participate in the upkeep and running of their household and housing community.
Guelph Campus Co-op
Life as a member of a Co-op means having fun and getting involved. By joining one of the Co-op's many committees, members can participate in such diverse tasks as planning social events, or planning the building's long term financial goals.
