Students sign up on the Wait List to be placed into co-ops which are ranked (by the student) according to preference. On the Wait List, students are assigned consecutive lottery numbers, so entries are processed on a first-come, first-served basis for each co-op. When vacancies open up a co-op that is ranked as more desirable than the current co-op (if any), the student is offered that spot, with dining changes processed automatically. For housing changes, you will be contacted and asked to confirm your desire to be placed into OSCA housing before any changes are made to your living situation.
If you are at the top of the Wait List for any of the co-ops which you listed as a higher preference than the co-op you are in (if any), changes occur on Wednesday change dates throughout the semester. When you are switched into a desired co-op, your change will be processed on the next Wednesday change date, and you will be notified by email two days later, on Friday. Your change will become effective and you may begin dining in your new co-op assignment on the following Monday.
Did you confirm your Fall/Spring Wait List preferences? If not, you are no longer on the Wait List! If you did, it may just be that no vacancies have opened up yet!
If you select as many co-op options as possible, there is a higher likelihood you will get off of the Wait List faster. However, placement ultimately depends on how many vacancies there are in the co-ops, and how many people are ahead of you on the Wait List for those co-ops.
Contrary to popular belief, expensive gifts and marinated tofu will not move you up the Wait List any faster. Finding and messaging the All-OSCA Membership Secretary on Facebook also will not help you!
Nope.
Most people on the Wait List remain on it until they are placed into their first-choice co-ops. Once you are placed into your first-choice co-op you will be removed from the Wait List. You may also remove yourself from the Wait List if you are happy with your co-op placement (or no longer want to join OSCA).
Once or twice a semester, and again in the summer, you will be asked to confirm that you still want to be placed into the co-ops you listed on the Wait List. If you missed the confirmation deadline, you will be removed from the Wait List at that time as well.
Yes! Once you are in OSCA, dining to dining switches and housing to housing switches may occur at any point during the semester.
No! But, there are ways to switch you between co-ops. Please contact the All-OSCA Membership Secretary or the All-OSCA AccessCo at office@osca.coop for more information.
Popular co-ops have longer waiting time than other co-ops, and different co-ops have differing degrees of membership turnover. Some co-ops will remain at capacity for many weeks, meaning no one is able to join that co-op as long as it's full. If you are further down the Wait List, you may not get into your desired co-op until the following semester. To find out your position on the Wait List, as well as your likelihood of joining a certain co-op, email office@osca.coop.
If you have been asked to confirm your Wait List choices, 1) go back to the Wait List, 2) choose "Change My Wait List Entry", and 3) choose your co-op preferences. (Your co-op preferences do not need to be different, but you must confirm them by the deadline provided or you will lose your spot on the Wait List.)
